my sunny valentine

8 Feb 2023

Hello!

Where did January go? If anyone finds it can they let us know, we probably just lost it down the back of the sofa or something.

ANYWAY, we're very sorry you didn't get an update from us last month. As much as we'd have liked to be hibernating, we were in fact so busy with various projects that we forgot to send this all-important newsletter!

"What were you doing?" we hear you cry. Well, hang on, hold your horses, we were just about to tell you.

Firstly, we kicked off the year by saying a massive WELCOME to our new Company Producer, Jameela, who we already can't imagine life without. If you see us out and about, Jameela may well be with us, so say hi!

Then we headed up to sunny Grimsby (see pic above) for a week of research & development with the brilliant lowercase, who are this year's Barrel Organ & Company company. You're going to want to keep an eye out for what these brilliant artists make this year, it's gonna be awesome. Shout out to the hugely inspiring community of artists, movers & shakers in GY & Cleethorpes who lowercase introduced us to during the week, and to Docks Academy for hosting us (and for their excellent beer).

We've also been cracking on behind the scenes preparing for LIVE at the Civic, Barnsley. Six brilliant companies & artists are squirreling away making six very different shows, which will be performed at the Civic and streamed live to your living room on 23rd March. Watch this space for info on tickets next month.

This week we also launched our search for a Youth Advisory Panel, made up of young people across the country, which seeks to inspire & guide the arts leaders of tomorrow. If you're 16-25 yourself, or know a 16-25 year-old who might be interested, find more info here.

Our search for Trustees to join our board is also ongoing. So if you want to join the board of an exciting, dynamic charity like ours and have expertise in finance, fundraising, law, environmental sustainability or accessibility, follow this link for more information.

Finally, we're going to make sure that every newsletter this year shouts out pals, alumni, or colleagues of ours who we think you should know more about. This month: Growth House, who presented work as part of LIVE Holbeck last year. Next month, they're starting up Play House, a three-part workshop series for performance-based creatives to come together: share, learn, create & grow. This season they're including workshops on acting with text, improvisation and physical theatre. All you need to know about Play House can be found at this link.

Team BO x

PS If you fancy seeing some of our core team's work in action at Vault Festival, you can catch Co-Director Rosie Gray in Surfacing next week and Associate Director Dan Hutton's direction of The Silver Bell this week.
